About the artwork

In 2014, Conrad Willems began a series of architectural sculptures made of natural stone. Named ‘Constructions’, constructed from marble slabs imperceptibly glued to a metal structure, they are shaped like the famous wooden playing blocks developed by 19th-century pedagogue Friedrich Fröbel.  The Rouge Griotte marble was extracted from the last active red marble quarry in Belgium.

About the artist

Conrad Willems is a visual artist who works with drawings and sculptures. Geometry, repetition and modularity are three basic tenets in all his works, resulting in his signature, highly-recognisable visual language.
