Taeckens - Vissersmonument
Synthetic stone. AndrĂ© Taeckens was inspired by the design of the visual artist Henri De Jaeger (1912-1984) from Heist, an esteemed painter, sculptor and chairman of the local art society Horizon. He managed an art gallery in the Parkstraat (Heist) during summer.  

Every year on the last Sunday of Carnival, after Mass in the Sint-Antoniuskerk, an impressive floral tribute is organized at the Vissersmonument (Fisherman's monument).

Purchased in 1964.

About the Artist:

Sculptor, designer of medals. Educated at the Academies of Bruges and Ghent.  Taeckens gives preference to figures, torsos, busts, portraits. He mostly works with bronze, marble and stone. 

He was a teacher at the Academy of Roeselare from 1942 until 1946.
