Pol Spilliaert - Dolende weg naar Tärr
About the statue:
A cut piece of bluestone, which expressive forms produce an image of forces struggling inside someone on his way to happiness. The work itself has a rather mysterious title and is therefore free for interpretation.
About the Artist:
This sculptor was trained at Ter Kameren in Brussels. He is moreover professor at the University College of Art and Design St.-Lucas in Ghent. He created monumental sculptures in natural stone and bronze, in which he makes fluent organic lines harmonise with austere geometric forms within one volume.
Even though abstraction prevails, the strongly stylised man-woman theme often turns up in his work. Also the play of human relations (attraction/rejection) and forces of nature (creating/destroying) are expressed in his work.
